Though I am away from the dogs and the business for a week, they are never far from my thoughts.
As I sit feeling a tremendous sense of gratitude and peace to be here in #Maui
beachside, I reflect deeper about a topic that has been on loop in my mind for sometime now.
I half jokingly refer to these collections of thoughts as, "Erin's TED Talk." The truth is, the longer I work with dogs and see what is impacting their ability to live successfully alongside us, the more clear a picture I find about how we humans are choosing to live our lives.
Lack of sleep. Rushing everywhere. Rarely enjoying silence. Failing to properly nourish ourselves. Skipping exercise. Missing out critical social connections. And just ignoring the things that give us a truly healthy and happy life.
Perhaps the dogs who are struggling to cope with the lives we have created for them are our own canary in the coal mine, striving to save our lives in a different way.
There's a blog post forming just below the surface of these thoughts about what working with dogs has taught me about how we are living. And I can't wait to start writing it so I can share it with you all.
But for now, I think I'll take a lesson from my canine crew and sit back and enjoy the sound of the crashing waves and the fresh ocean. ❤ Erin
