➖I don’t have the best genetics. At times I feel like all the years prior to the present have been wasted due to inconsistency with certain things in life. I always think about all the trash I’ve put into my body over the years and how hard the struggle really is to repair all the damage and where I would be if I knew back then what I know now.⁣

❇️What has helped me break past these barriers is a #positivemindset ➕ Stop thinking about the negatives, instead, think about how you can use them to create some positives. Life doesn’t hand you mistakes, only lessons. 🏃🏼‍♀️ ❄️ 5km tempo run was actually a success!! Maybe 3 weeks on the hamster wheel actually helped my running game? 🤷🏼‍♀️ I was just shy of a PB but there was still snow banks, puddles and black ice to Dodge in spots. My feet definitely got wet but it was SO worth it to run outside again!! ➡️ swipe to see one rough section! Needless to say I remember the day I broke 6mins/km this morning I was just shocked to see 5:20min/km.

😴👩🏼‍⚕️ still trying to find balance with these 12 hour shifts. Just finished 2 day shift and I stayed up last night. Pulling myself out of bed to go for a run was hard but so happy I did. Time to get a few things done around the house and then back to bed I go for 2 night shifts.

➖Leg day is starting to become one of my favorite days. I’ve never really been leg dominant, but i’m starting to realize the positive effects of building a strong foundation from the bottom up and you should too! ⁣

✅Benefits of training legs⁣

❇️HORMONE RELEASE. Your legs house some of the biggest muscles in your body, and training them will stimulate more natural Human Growth Hormone and testosterone in your system. What does this mean? ❇️OVERALL STRENGTH. Big compound movements like the #squat work almost every muscle in the body and is one of the best exercises you can do to stimulate WHOLE BODY lean muscle gains. ⁣

✅Fun fact: I started #deadlifting in the 200lb club this time last year with 💩form and have progressed to the 300lb club with a significantly better lift. ⁣

▪️I’ve been weight training consistently for about a year now and I’ve learned a few things. One of the most important things I’ve learned is that #egolifting will kill your gains.⁣

▪️Everyone wants to be the “big man on campus” and push more weight than the next person. I’m not ashamed to say that I have fallen victim to this mindset plenty of times and have suffered the consequences because of it.⁣

⚠️Ego busters⚠️⁣

❇️SACRIFICING FORM. Because of my ego I have sacrificed form over and over through the years and because of this I have under-developed muscle groups and a weaker physique overall. On top of this I have probably put myself at risk for injury plenty of times. Keep your form in check with any exercise to maximize it’s benefits and get those gains in.⁣

❇️ITS OK TO BE A BEGINNER. You can’t expect to be great at anything right from the jump, weight training is no different. Start with light weight and work your way up over time as you build more lean muscle and the weight becomes easier to move.⁣

❇️TIME UNDER TENSION. Stacking plates on the bar isn’t the only way to grow. Effectively overloading your muscles can be achieved in multiple ways. Learn how to activate “fast twitch” muscle fibers (heavier weight with lower rep range) and “slow twitch” muscle fibers (lighter weight with higher rep range).⁣

❇️TRAINING EXPERIENCE. You want to look massive immediately....but before you turn into the hulk, understand that it takes time to get your physique to grow. Most body builders have been dedicated to training for years on end and have a physique that reflects that fact. Don’t lose hope! Consistently train hard and keep that diet from getting out of control and I can guarantee that you will achieve your desired build... IT JUST TAKES TIME! ⁣

made excuses, and had a lot of bad habits. Partying was a priority and everything else was on the back-burner. ⁣

Stopped making excuses and dropped a lot of bad habits (drinking weekly, eating whatever was in front of me, etc...). I still party, just in moderation.⁣

🛑Old me⁣
Thought I could out-work a bad diet and would constantly come up with ways to make myself believe that it was ok because I hit the gym.⁣

✅New me⁣
Eats significantly better and still has a cheat day every week. The gym schedule is way more consistent and i’m giving my body more of what it needs to grow and feel healthier overall. ⁣

🛑Old me⁣
Has been saying (for years) that I would reach what I thought was my peak physical form over and over, but never took the steps to do so.⁣

✅New me⁣
Is telling you that this time is different...this time my path is clear and over and over again, I WILL show you what can happen when you stop telling yourself you can’t when you really can.⁣

➡️If the “Old me” sounds all too familiar, it’s not too late to make a change. It’s time to take action. Stop holding yourself back from what you are truly capable of. It’s time to take control! 🙌🏽⁣

🏃🏼‍♀️25km /15.5 miles done on the hamster wheel!!! Only 5 weeks ago I mentally pushed through my biggest block of surpassing 16km on a run. Today there wasn’t a doubt I could do it. I’m not fast but I am consistent, speed will come with time but for now I like being the turtle 🐢 haha

I have been thinking lots about doing a marathon in the spring since I’m so close with training for Around The Bay. To be honest on my run I was against the thought haha I can’t imagine doing another hour on the bloody treadmill. But hopefully the weather and life will calm down just enough that I can navigate my way through. If it was solely up to me I would go for it. But unless I have the family support it will be a pipe dream. Only time will tell 🤷🏼‍♀️Happy Tuesday!! __________________________

❇️The patient population is getting older with every year that passes which unfortunately means we are seeing higher acuity patients with serious health care issues.⁣

❇️Often times we get so caught up in a busy environment and sometimes the tasks ordered by physicians become the primary focus. It’s easy to get lost in the sea of orders that populate and its in that instance where we lose focus of the bigger picture. ⁣

❇️All my nursing students still learning and all my nurses who have been in the game for awhile...NEVER lose your ability to critically think a scenario even when acting fast is the only option you have. Keep your focus and remember you are one of the few people fighting for your patient’s well-being, so BE that person...⁣

First and foremost - the scale is a tool! It provides data...you know the kind you can analyze to see what’s working and what’s not. It can be used to remind yourself after a night of binging on junky food and beer (yes it happens to me too ✌🏽#imhuman)
It CAN be used to measure progress, but I MYSELF totally prefer pictures, how clothing fits, inches lost or gained depending on your goals and your #nsv ‘s like 👉🏽👉🏽 energy, strength, happiness, & genuinely LOVING what you see looking back at you 💋

I can’t lie...before I learned that the scale is just another tool in my journey and not a DEFINITION of success, I wasn’t that successful!

Causes of the scale jumping up a few lbs can be related to so many outside factors 👇🏽 •Water retention
•Lack of sleep!
•Stress
•Hormones - girls especially - you will fluctuate as the month rolls on by!
•Different timings of meals the day before!
➡️BUT GUESS WHAT? Weight loss, fat loss, progress - 🤜🏼IS NOT LINEAR🤛🏼!
And MOST IMPORTANTLY ⤵️

Decided to bless the chest on this 🌧 Sunday and the pump was definitely real 💪🏽⁣

➡️I have been tending to ease up on my tricep workouts due to the fact that they are developing a lot faster than other muscles. Hence the multiple chest workouts in the week.⁣

➡️Moving forward in the cut I have learned a few things about weight training thus far, while in a caloric deficit.⁣

Training tips when you ✂️:⁣

❇️ITS OK TO LIFT HEAVY. Even though you may feel slightly weaker due to the fact that you’re feeding your body less calories, continue to push the heaviest weight possible. REMEMBER this also means controlling the weight and completing reps with proper form. If you can’t do that scale the weight down a little until you can. ⁣

❇️GIVE YOUR BODY “REFEEDS”. This term, loosely defined, means bumping your carb intake while leaving your protein and fat counts relatively the same. This will replenish the glycogen stores in your body, make you look “fuller” and feel better overall.⁣

❇️REST, REST, REST. This is important no matter what phase you are in. You train hard while having a life. You need to give your body time to rest in order to recover properly. Remember, rest is when growth happens so get plenty of it.⁣

Successful shoulder day today even though the clouds and rain made it hard to leave the warmth of the sheets.⁣

Tips for bigger shoulders:⁣

❇️WARM UP PROPERLY. Run through some range of motion and some stretching prior to loading weight to warm up the shoulder (also helps overall shoulder health) ⁣

❇️DON’T GO TOO HEAVY. Use a working weight that allows you to keep good form. Once form falls, everything else does as well AND it makes you more prone to injury. So use #lightweightbaby we can’t all be @ronniecoleman8 😏⁣

❇️WORK THE WHOLE SHOULDER. If you’re like me then you’ve neglected the rear delt your whole life lol (FAIL). Add dimension and really get the #3ddelts effect by working the anterior, lateral, and posterior delt 👍🏽⁣

I’ve seen a good amount of shoulder gains myself using these tips. Think about how big the shoulder muscles are in comparison to the bigger muscles in your body. It doesn’t take a lot of load to stress the muscle. Go up in weight overtime as the movements become easier and BOOM! ....gain central y’all!⁣

Today's been a bad day for me..... I've been going through a lot the last 2 months.... I decided to enjoy the holidays with my family because it may have been my mom's last Christmas with us (she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer back in the summer)... So needless to say... I've put on a little unwanted weight. I've also been trying to get my hormones regulated from the long prep I was on... Plus getting the leanest I ever have 10%BF.... So that's also not helped me... I know feeling this way isn't good nor should I even feel like this... But seeing yourself in the absolute best shape ever to now is hard.... I'm taking it day to day and just thanking the Lord that he even gives me the opportunity to do the things I love.... But looking in the mirror and not loving yourself is the worst feeling.

👩🏼‍⚕️ I made it through my shift block this week. I’m so blessed to have a fantastic consolidation nurse. It’s amazing how in just a few shift I’m already starting to feel like I belong with this group. I am respected and get asked to participate in social activities that other students on the floor have not been. Also, nurses that have out right said they would never deal with a student have invited me to watch dressing changes and given me opportunities to practice different skills. I can only hope my luck continues in my next blocks.

🏃🏼‍♀️ Well my training week went to the shitter. I did my 10km on the weekend and then nothing but my 2 km walks to and from work. So I guess this week has become my recovery week. I now have a few days off the hospital so here to minimum getting in my long run. Still trying to find the balance between shift work and running. #happyfriday

Short, but sweet posing session after today’s workout, I call it the “Wannabe #physiquecompetitor “ routine 😂⁣

Starting to realize that posing is a lot more difficult than I had originally thought. Holding and flexing your muscle for an extended period of time is pretty draining, even though it doesn’t sound like it. Respect to all the real physique competitors out there that have this skill locked down 👏🏽⁣

I also feel that constantly going through different poses helps with the mind-muscle connection and creates improvement. I tend to reserve some time post-lift to knock out some poses to give myself a physique update from time to time and try to expose all the kinks in the armor.⁣

Thank God cause that was rough. Funny what poor sleep can do to your mental state. I also received amazing work news today, so I feel back on track! And I get to up my cardio this week! What what!I'm one of those crazy people that sees cardio as a reward not a chore. Life is good again. 😊

👩🏼‍⚕️🏥 Day 1 complete!! It was amazing! It was so busy I’m pretty sure I didn’t sit while I was on the floor at all. Swipe ⏭ to see my poor stethoscope, it however didn’t make it. 🤣🤣 My nurse couldn’t be better, we get along so well. We seem to have the same sense of humour but she curses like a sailor and I do not. 🤷🏼‍♀️🙉Only 26 to go!! Photo was taken at the end of day 1 let’s see what I’m like at the end of day 27!! 🙈

🏃🏼‍♀️So you know your a runner when .... the hospital is only 2 km from my house and you think people are crazy for suggesting driving 🤷🏼‍♀️. It was dark raining and warm ?! (6oC) I was on such a high leaving the hospital I decided to run home, cause why not?? 🙈 Cause I had winter boots on that’s why I shouldn’t have. I have run 22km with no blisters .. but run/walking 2km in boot yep I have blisters 🙈🙈🙈🤷🏼‍♀️
I just missed running outside so much, maybe I will get out tomorrow night.
