We catalogue fat as our enemy, but it isn't in fact! Good fat, like the one contained in good quality Greek Yogurt 🍦 is good for our system.

I regularly do 16:8 fasting (most weekdays) but have reached a plateau in feeling awesome and losing fat. I don’t feel bad necessarily, just have less energy so I’ve found myself not working out nearly as much as I should be so I am attempting a 24 hour fast to reset. Thought about an egg fast but after much research I don’t want my body to raise its antibodies vie igE levels and create a problem with eggs for me after having wildly high igE levels just a year ago with no real culprit that we could find. I love eggs too much to let my body reject them so I am using the idea that there is such thing as too much of a good thing and doing liquids only to hold my fast. I am so grateful for healing knowledge + wisdom that has allowed me to heal my body, mind + soul. I want to know do you love Monday’s or dread them?

If you know me, you know I LOVE them. I love them for so many reasons. They are the start to a new week! The start to a new you! The start to endless possibilities! They are just so amazing but there was a time when I didn’t think this way. There was a time when I dreaded Monday’s. They meant the weekend and my freedom were gone. They meant going back to a 8-5 job that was unfulfilling. They meant fives days of survival mode to get to Friday at 5pm and I had my freedom to do what I loved and wanted.

I am here to tell you….you don’t have to dread Monday’s! Everyday can be a day you are living the life ⠀
you want. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or any other day of the week can be a day you look forward to because of the endless opportunities that are within your grasp. ⠀
Do you dream of time freedom? I know for me that is a huge reason why I started a “side hustle” was because time freedom is so important to me as a mom of three kiddos. I want to be there for their ⠀
school plays and programs or that field trip and I for sure want to be at every hockey, football, volleyball, basketball and rodeo event they have and not worry about having to ask for the time off. ⠀
From the moment I knew I wanted to have kids I knew I wanted to be there for them always as I know that I only have them for a short time and all the moments with they are important to me even the ones ⠀
when they may not be at their best. I knew I wanted to be the one to console them when they got sick or hurt and I wanted to be there cheering them on as their biggest fan.

For me time freedom is just as important as financial freedom and I am so blessed that my “side hustle” is allowing me to live out both.

There's a number of gut based conditions that are known to cause or contribute to mental unwellness including depression, anxiety, autism, & OCD.

1) Coeliac disease: is a digestive disease in which the body's immune system reacts abnormally to gluten. Everyone with any form of mental unwellness should be screened for Coeliac disease. You may or may not have any digestive symptoms. You can have "silent" Coeliac disease in which you have no digestive symptoms but it may cause fatigue, muscle pain, depression, Schizophrenia or infertility.

2) SIBO: SIBO stands for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Did you see yesterday's post? Check out the symptom list there.

3) PANDAS is short for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections. A child may be diagnosed with PANDAS when: Obsessive compulsive disorder. There is a little bit of discussion of adult-onset PANDAS, but this is pretty cutting edge stuff. PANS is a newer term used to describe the larger class of acute-onset OCD cases.

4) Clostridium are another bacteria that can be pathogenic, and is associated with autism. The clostridia makes toxins that can interfere with dopamine and noradrenaline.

5) Candida yeast infections have been talked about for decades by naturopaths. The candida infection can lead to severe brain fog, fatigue, achey joints and muscles. It's usually treated with antimicrobials and a very low sugar and carbohydrate diet.

6) D-lactic acidosis is a rare condition that can occur in individuals who have a history of short bowel syndrome. Unabsorbed carbohydrates act as a substrate for colonic bacteria to form D-lactic acid. D-lactic acid accumulation in the blood can cause neurologic symptoms such as delirium, ataxia, and slurred speech.

How does stress affect gut health?
.
In short, in so many interconnected ways!
.
Stress hormones, such as epinephrine (adrenaline) affects:
- mobility of the gut
- changes the stomach acid levels
- impacts the immune system present in the gastrointestinal tract
- increases leaky gut
- and increases the growth of opportunistic bacteria.
.
This might sound like just a list, but the interesting and complicated thing is that all these changes interact.
.
For example:
- by changing the mobility of the gut, the level of different microbes change.
- AND if you decrease stomach acid secretion the small intestine isn't very acidic anymore, and this means that it's an environment that the bacteria (that belong in the large intestine) will like. This leads to the bacteria living where they're not suppose to live. It's a condition called SIBO or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Have you ever heard of it?
- Another interesting connection I think is that stress impacts the mucosal (innate) immune system in the gut, but stress also increases leaky gut which goes onto stimulate the bodies (adaptive) immune system.
