A 3rd fresh produce market is scheduled to open this month in Newark’s West Side High School. Paterson will join the market network this spring with a new market set to open in April! This embodies our whole operation! From food rescue to food security! We are hauling to another York county neighborhood lacking access to fresh food today. Whatever is leftover goes to our markets tomorrow or to a homeless service agency equipped with kitchens. Anything not usable is composted. Anything that is not able to be composted is discarded. All in all? We cut down food waste by 90% in this process. It’s a life cycle of sorts, so come do life with us! .

First stop in 2019 is at @pilgrimsinn , a social services agency in Rock Hill. They have a pantry that we plan to help with by creating a market full of fresh items for the neighborhood and those they serve. One of our biggest goals is to serve York County SC harder this year as this area lacks public transportation and affordable housing. This leaves a lot of residents stranded without proper nutritious resources. We aim to target 5 new areas as well as strengthen our service in our existing locations. All of that = YAY!

Our first market stop at Park at Oaklawn was such a fun time. We connect to families through food from farms and gardens. Today, we had a special visitor delivering aquaponic lettuce fresh from @100gardens that we paired with @friendshipgardens salad dressing. We also featured our first donation and order from @jubileefarms.table that included purple carrots that proved to be a popular item for kids and parents alike! For the past several years, they’ve been delivering fresh produce and gardening education to residents of Omaha, NE by way of a 1975 Chevy pickup truck called “Truck Farm Omaha”. After experiencing vehicular failures, City Sprouts upgraded Truck Farm Omaha by using a $5,000 grant to help purchase a 2005 Toyota Tundra. The new and improved truck farm travels to community events and parades, bringing local produce and gardening education to residents throughout the city. We hustled and bustled to the Renaissance West market where we were proud for the support and presence of two main players of food access, @100gardens and @clt_herbalaccessibilityproject ! Sam from 100 gardens delivered freshly harvested butter head lettuce from his aquaponic garden and Brandon from Charlotte Herbal Accessibility Project provided immune boosting hibiscus tea. Neighbors got to take a bag of fresh vegetables and even local milk (our first order from @freshlistclt ) just in time for the holidays. Pretty thankful to serve goodness with good people today! .

What a cool morning to wake up to donated pots and pans to go back to the community! Did you know that we offer cooking instruction on how to use items from our market? Lots of people say they don’t have cooking utensils, so we end up talking about how to make raw recipes. Although thats awesome, we want to be able to provide supplies to those that can’t afford it or simply need instruction so they can have variety in their diet. With that said, we are going to do a cooking utensil drive until mid November! Any gently or new cooking items you want to give can be picked up and given to those in need at our markets just in time for Thanksgiving! Items most needed are small to medium pots, small to medium skillets, spatulas, and slotted spoons. If you don’t have any and want to make a monetary donation, please donate on our website with a note to go towards the utensil drive! We will make sure to give recipes that can be used for each utensils! Let the cooking for health and wellness begin!!!
