As much as I love cooking and making sure that I #stirinthelove
, it is always a treat when someone cooks with love for me too. I came home for the Easter weekend and last night my aunty had cooked some simple #indianfood
for our dinner.
This is a type of #thali
- ie a plate to serve all the separate items ... very practical as it stops it all mixing up together. At home, we eat a very #healthy
style of Indian food as we use very little salt and very little oil/butter/ghee because various family members have issues/concerns with #highbloodpressure
, so we cook in a way that is better for them (and us all.) I now also try to keep the carb part a bit lower... so I try to pick either the bread , the rice or the potatoes as most Indian food has at least one of these components... if not all of them! So trying to keep carbs to a minimum requires willpower!
This thali includes an #organic #wholewheat #chapati
(a #yeastfree Indian #flatbread),
and top left - #paneer
(an Indian cheese in a lightly spiced but not chilli hot sauce/gravy), top right - #palak
- fresh organic #spinach
with absolutely tons of garlic and ginger and a lot of chilli... this is the #hotstuff
on the plate , bottom right is #okra
- this was medium hot and spiced and bottom left - organic chicken curry - lots of #spices
but very mild chilli heat... so we have a mix of mild to fire hot food all on one thali because some of us like our food mild and some like it really hot... so there is something for everyone in our family here. Always served with yoghurt and salad on the side.
My aunty is an absolute peachy-pie with a heart of gold. My favourite thing is to make her giggle and laugh at silly jokes and so she has a bit of a soft spot for me. So when she cooks for me, I can really taste the #love.
Lucky me. What a lovely welcome home.
