Armed with a critical eye and a camera, young people in Half Moon Bay and Pescadero have been educating community members about a simple, brutal reality: drugs and alcohol are easily accessible. For youth and families who have less access to mental health services, substance use can quickly become a vicious cycle.
In partnership with @mypuente these young folks have shared their work in diverse community spaces throughout San Mateo, California. The project will be on display at the San Mateo County Hall of Justice until February 27th -- don't miss it!

Recently, our #EveryBlackGirl affiliate in #Antigua, Girls Empowered, spent a weekend feeding the homeless and sharing kindness.

The young ladies in Antigua have completed the Legends in the Making training several of our South Carolina and North Carolina youth have participated in. The training seeks to help youth explore who they are and how they will show up as black girls and for black girls.

A team of interns from the Tech Lab at our Brownsville Community Justice Center attended a conference in Athens organized by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation where they demonstrated their virtual reality game "Fireflies: A Brownsville Story," which allows users to explore life in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Brownsville through first-hand accounts of actual residents. After the presentation, the group, which included, from left, Adrian Richardson, Rayquan Graham, and Candace Oliver, explored ancient sites, including the Parthenon. Ananya, one of the 21 members of our @youthjusticeboard, answers questions from the audience about the board’s latest publication, 'Homeless Not Hopeless: A Report on Homeless Youth and the Justice System in New York City,' at an end-of-year presentation at Broome Street Academy in Manhattan. The report examines the intersection between youth homelessness and the criminal justice system in New York City. It makes recommendations to policy-makers including expanding diversion programs and short-term services for homeless youth and increasing support for LGBTQ youth in foster care. The Youth Justice Board is an after-school leadership program offering New York City teenagers an opportunity to inform public debate about issues affecting them. Applications for the 2017-18 board are now being accepted till July 14.
